Dimapur Ao Youth Organisation (DAYO) has extended its support for the urgent restoration of the historic Niuland-Zhadima road, an alternative lifeline route connecting Dimapur to Kohima.
In a statement, DAYO expressed concern over the continued neglect of the Niuland-Zhadima route, despite its strategic importance. It noted that while the government projects itself as a welfare state, its actions remain focused solely on NH-29, which has become increasingly hazardous due to frequent rockfalls and landslides, especially during the monsoon season.
DAYO pointed out that the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways had sanctioned Rs.321.15 crore on October 7, 2016, for the construction of the Capital Bypass Road from Dimapur to Kohima under the ISC scheme. However, nearly a decade later, no tangible progress has been made, raising doubts over the government’s commitment to genuine road connectivity.
The organisation stated that the recurring roadblocks, casualties and hardships faced by commuters cannot be ignored any longer.
DAYO demanded that the Government of Nagaland take immediate and concrete steps to upgrade and maintain the Niuland-Zhadima road. It cautioned that if the government fails to act within a reasonable timeframe, affected villages and like-minded youth organisations would be compelled to initiate democratic forms of protest and agitation until justice is delivered.
