DAYO condemns assault by non-local traders

DIMAPUR, JUN 26 (NPN)

Dimapur Ao Youth Organisation (DAYO) has expressed strong condemna-tion against the physical assault on one Meyi Jamir by non-local traders in Murgipatti , while buying vegetables here Thursday.
DAYO in a statement has reiterated that such an act of aggression was not only unacceptable but also deeply disturbing, given the growing trend of non-local elements asserting unchecked dominance in marketplaces.
DAYO pointed out that almost all market spaces in Dimapur, the state’s commercial hub, were now monopolised by non-local traders. It said that what was more alarming was the audacity of some who dared to lay their hands on locals with impunity.
Further, DAYO noted that the incident served as a grim reminder of the urgent need for local commu-nities in reasserting their rightful place in their own land.
DAYO also reminded public that non-local traders were bound by the provisions of Inner Line Permit (ILP) regulations. It also cautioned that any violation of the rule, whether legal, economic, or behav-ioural, would not be tolerated.
DAYO also appealed to law enforcement agencies and district administration to take action to ensure that such a precedence was not set, since there were several similar unreported cases.
It also urged upon all local communities and civil society organisations to raise their voice and stand in solidarity against such unlawful and aggressive behavior. DAYO therefore, stressed that it was time to be vigilant, aware, and united in defending the inherent rights, dignity, and social fabric of the land.
DAYO asserted that it stood firm with its commitment to protect the interests, rights, and safety of the indigenous Naga people of Dimapur.
