
Dimapur Bar Association (DBA) has cautioned its members and advocates to refrain from indulging in illegal practices.
In a press release, DBA president Imti Imsong and general secretary Hukavi Zhimomi stated that some individuals in the capacity of notary public were issuing marriage certificates which it said was inappropriate and illegal. In this regard, DBA said that the certificates should be obtained from designated marriage officer and that the notary public had “no authority or power to issue marriage certificates”.
The association has also cautioned advocates/members against indulging in “money lending activities and real estate businesses as agents, brokers etc” which was inappropriate.
DBA warned that member of the bar indulging in such activities would be doing so at their own risk and would be disbanded from the bar. The bar also took exception to the misuse of advocates logo and stickers which were exclusively to be used by the bona fide advocates and members of the bar for official court duties.
DBA cautioned that any individual other than bona fide advocates and Bar members using the same for other purposes such as commercial vehicles, unofficial family cars, transport vehicles etc. was illegal.
In light of several instances of inappropriate and unauthorised activities of certain individuals pertaining to the members of the Bar, the Dimapur Bar Association is constraint to publish as under to set the records straight and to sensitize the general public in regard to some common misconceptions. The Dimapur Bar Association is issuing the instant press release to restraint any of its members from inappropriate and illegal practices so also to inform the general public in this regard.
