DC Chümou calls for anti-drug action

DIMAPUR: Deputy Commissioner Choumukedima, Polan John, has called for coordinated and sustained efforts by all departments to strengthen the district’s anti-drug campaign. Chairing a review meeting at the DC’s chamber in Choumukedima on September 24, he emphasized the importance of inter-departmental cooperation and timely reporting for effective monitoring and implementation of anti-drug activities.
DC directed all departments to submit detailed reports on activities undertaken, which will be compiled and reviewed in subsequent meetings to ensure proper follow-up.
Polan John highlighted the need to identify and verify illegal or unauthorised de-addiction and rehabilitation centres in line with Central Government guidelines. He stressed that appropriate action must be taken against centres failing to meet prescribed standards. The meeting also discussed the importance of Drug-Free Campus programmes. The DC suggested focused awareness campaigns in selected schools and the formation of Drug Awareness Clubs involving both students and teachers to strengthen preventive measures. DC also urged departments to promote sports and other constructive activities as alternatives to substance abuse. He emphasized the proper utilisation of resources and materials provided under the National Narcotics Control initiatives.
Polan John reiterated that continued inter-departmental coordination and timely reporting would be essential to achieve tangible results in the district’s anti-drug campaign.
