Taking note of some individuals who have started providing ferry services near CIHSR hospital across Chate river, through raw makeshift tyre tubes, DC Dimapur Kesonyu Yhome through an order has banned such tube ferries with immediate effect. In the order, the DC cautioned that such modes of carrying people was found to be extremely hazardous and risky.
While asking those involved to strictly comply with the directive in public interest, the DC has also requested public not to avail any such services.
It may be pointed out that, in the aftermath of the bridge collapse at 4th Mile on July 11, over Chathe river , a vital life line between over one hundred villages and Dimapur has been cut off. The bridge collapse has placed hundreds of users into great difficulty. However, some enterprising persons immediately introduced the tube ferry service to transport people to Dimapur side.
The river in its monsoon spate, poses serious danger on such rubber tubes which have no motor nor are they shaped to navigate across the swirling river.
DC Dimapur Kesonyu Yhome has on July 12 directed commuters and motorists to use Patkai-Seithekima-Niuland road. However, heavy vehicles have been prohibited from using this road for the time being.
