DIMAPUR, MAY 21 (NPN): Deputy Commissioner Dimapur, Dr. Tinojongshi Chang, on Thursday informed that the proposed no-confidence motion against Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC) chairperson Hukheto Yepthomi has been withdrawn following withdrawal of support by six signatories.
Informing this in a letter to commissioner & secretary, Urban Development & Municipal Affairs, DC said that a written notice expressing intention to move a no-confidence motion against DMC chairperson was submitted to the DC on May 11. The notice was signed by 12 elected councillors out of the total strength of 23 members and was delivered by two elected members. DC stated that after scrutiny, the notice was found to be in conformity with the procedural requirements under the Nagaland Municipal Act, 2023, following which a special meeting was scheduled for May 22, 2026 to consider the no-confidence motion and conduct a floor test.
However, prior to the scheduled meeting, the office received a written communication on May 21 wherein six out of the 12 signatories declared withdrawal of their support to the no-confidence motion.
DC informed that after verification of the authenticity of the signatures, the special meeting scheduled for May 22 was cancelled and the notice for the no-confidence motion dated May 11 was treated as withdrawn and closed.
Following a series of discussions and intervention by senior party leaders, DMC chairperson and deputy chairperson Imlinaro S Ezung issued a joint reconciliatory statement on Wednesday, announcing that all differences and misunderstandings had been resolved in the larger interest of party unity and public service.
