DIMAPUR, OCT 11 (NPN): Deputy Commissioner of Kiphire, Temsuwati Longkumer, has urged all concerned to maintain restraint and strictly comply with prohibitory orders amid reports of emerging tensions between the Yimkhiung and Tikhir communities, particularly in Zaonger, Pokphur and Longtsunger.
In a public advisory, DC called upon individuals, community organisations, village authorities and other stakeholders to refrain from provocative statements or actions that could aggravate tensions or disturb communal harmony. The advisory cautioned against intimidation, threats, physical confrontation, incitement, rumour-mongering and circulation of unverified information that could create hostility between communities.
DC also urged all concerned to cooperate with the district administration, police and other authorities, and refrain from assembling or undertaking activities in violation of the prohibitory restrictions in force.
Village councils, Gaon Burahs, tribal organisations and community leaders were asked to sensitise their respective communities, discourage retaliatory actions and facilitate peaceful resolution of differences through dialogue and established channels.
DC stated that the district administration, in coordination with the police and concerned authorities, was closely monitoring the situation and would take appropriate legal action against violations of the orders or any acts prejudicial to public peace and security.
The advisory followed the prohibitory order issued on October 10 and public notices issued by the United Sangtam Likhüm Pümji and the Kiphire District GBs’ Association on the same day.
DC appealed to all communities to uphold mutual respect and peaceful coexistence to prevent untoward incidents and maintain peace and tranquility in the district.
