Deputy Commissioner & District Magistrate, Kohima, Rajesh Soundararajan, has informed the general public of the instances of damaging public materials like stones, sand, bricks, firewood, bamboo, excavated earth etc., on the roadside causing blockage of drainage and waterways which have come to notice of the Authority.
Whereas, such activities are prohibited under section 21 & 54 of the Nagaland Highway Act, 1967, Section 3(1) of prevention of damage to public property Act, 1984 and whoever acts in contravention to the above cited section (s), is liable to be prosecuted under Section 57, 58, and 59 of the National Highway Act, 1967, Section 8B of the National Highway Act 1956, Section 3 (2) of the prevention of Damage to Public property Act, 1984 and Section 426 of the Indian Penal Code, 1860.
Hence, having regard to the General public safety and property, order has been issued banning all such actions on any public roads and Highways within Kohima District for commercial or personal purposes. The order also added that whoever contravenes the order will be prosecuted as per relevant Sections of Law.
