DC Kma inspects Jotsoma by-pass for restoration

DIMAPUR

Deputy Commissioner Kohima, B. Henok Buchem, conducted an inspection of the Jotsoma by-pass road on October 13 to assess its condition for repair and restoration, following recent landslides at Liezocha and Kezanu that rendered portions of NH-29 unmotorable.
According to DIPR, Buchem was accompanied by Additional SP (Traffic) Kohima Puzoto Khatso, Revenue Officer Kevingoto Kulnu, NCS, Executive Engineer PWD (R&B) Er. Wabang, SDO Sechü-Zubza Imliakum Sanglir, and other officials, along with representatives from Jotsoma Youth Organisation (JYO) and Jotsoma Village Council (JVC).
Acknowledging the road’s importance as an alternative route, DC Buchem expressed gratitude to JVC, JYO, NSDMA, Traffic Police, and PWD (R&B) for their cooperation.
He emphasized the urgency of the restoration, stating that “disaster knows no day,” and announced that the work would be executed directly by the concerned department to ensure quality.
Buchem informed that the repair is being funded through the Disaster Management Authority and stressed timely completion, citing Kohima’s loose soil conditions and daily traffic of around 400 trucks. He clarified that the sanctioned funds are strictly for emergency restoration and do not include land compensation.
Additional SP (Traffic) Khatso acknowledged the need for stricter enforcement of traffic regulations, particularly for heavy vehicles, and assured that improved measures would be implemented.
JVC chairman Rüdolie Nagi urged the department to construct a durable road, while JYO president shared that the organisation had already cleared debris and drains in some sections and would continue assisting. He also appealed for future widening of the by-pass and stricter enforcement against traffic violations.
Both JVC and JYO reiterated their request for PWD (R&B) to undertake the work directly, without contractors, to ensure better quality and assured full support in the restoration process.
