DIMAPUR: Deputy Commissioner Kohima, B. Henok Buchem, released the Solid Waste Management (SWM) Rules Handbook 2026 issued by PHED Urban Division, Kohima, during a programme held at the DC’s Office Chamber on Friday. The handbook, prepared in both English and Hindi, was distributed to representatives from ten villages of Kohima district.
According to DIPR report, speaking on the occasion, Buchem noted that indiscriminate disposal of waste in the past had led to serious environmental and public health concerns. He informed that the Supreme Court has mandated proper segregation of waste at source, cautioning that failure to comply with the guidelines would invite penalties under prescribed regulations.
The DC stressed the importance of adopting scientific waste management practices and creating awareness at the community level. Highlighting the four categories of waste segregation, he urged village representatives to disseminate the information widely to ensure effective implementation of SWM measures across the district. The programme was attended by the Executive Engineer, PHED, officials and village representatives.
