DIMAPUR: The Deputy Commissioner of Mokokchung has issued an advisory following reports of African Swine Fever (ASF) outbreaks in Chungtia village, Kangtsungyimsen village, and Shitikolak Ward under Tuli subdivision in Mokokchung district.
According to the advisory, the outbreaks were confirmed based on reports received from the office of the Chief Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Officer, Mokokchung.
In view of the situation, the public has been advised to abstain from buying and consuming pork within the affected areas and adjoining regions. The infected areas will be strictly monitored by the Veterinary Department in coordination with the concerned administrative authorities.
The advisory further stated that the import of pigs from outside the state will be closely monitored and regulated by the Veterinary Department in accordance with relevant guidelines. All imported consignments will be mandatorily tested upon entry into the district.
Authorities also directed that the transit time of pig consignments within the Tuli subdivision at designated stockyards should not exceed 24 hours. Fresh mandatory testing will be conducted before further transportation to neighbouring subdivisions and districts outside Tuli.
The Veterinary Department has been instructed to closely monitor border areas and undertake extensive testing measures to prevent further spread of the disease.
Meanwhile, the public has been urged to remain vigilant and immediately report any suspicious behaviour or sudden death of pigs suspected to be caused by ASF to the Office of the Chief A.H. and Veterinary Officer, Mokokchung.
