
DC Mokokchung, Sachin Jaiswal has informed the public that under Pre-Conception & Pre-Natal Diagnostic Technique (prohibition of Sex Selection) Act 1994, sex determination before and after conception is prohibited and all offences under this Act are cognizable, non-bailable and non-compoundable. DIPR reports that the DC pointed out, under this Act, any person advertising and performing sex-determination of foetus can be imprisoned for up to three years with a fine of up to Rs.10,000 and cancelation of Medical Registration for up to five years.
Any husband/family member abetting sex-selection can be imprisoned for up to three years with a fine of up to Rs.50,000. All concerned citizens have been requested to take note of the Act and inform to the district administration about any violation related to the Act. If the information is found is found to be genuine, the informer will be suitably rewarded and the identity of the informer will be kept confidential.
