New school building of Edith Douglas high school at Papong ward, Mon town, was dedicated by KBCM pastor Nahngom in the presence of deputy commissioner (DC) Mon, Honje Konyak, representatives from KU and KSU, headmasters of other private Schools and public leaders on January 30, 2016.
Speaking at the dedication programme, DC Mon, Honje Konyak congratulated the school authority for successful completion of the school building in time before the start of the new academic session.
He suggested the school managing board to be cooperative, strict and at the same time liberal with the teaching staff in matters relating to the school children. DC also sought active participation of the parents and the general public for the well being and future of the students and for the school to excel.
Honje Konyak stated that it was he who had directed the school managing board to shift the school to new location as the old school compound at Tanlao ward was dangerously affected by landslide and sinking.
The function was chaired by school assistant headmaster Lichemse Sangtam, special number was presented by St. Peter’s hostellers, short speeches were delivered by KU vice president, KSU vice president and chairman (school managing board) and vote of thanks was proposed by school headmaster M.K Mani.
Edith Douglas High School, one of the oldest private schools in the district was shifted to new location due to continuous sinking and landslide at Tanlao ward where the old school building was located. Besides the school, many residences and families have also been evacuated from the ward due to constant land sinking since 2012. Central team from Delhi had also visited Tanlao ward in 2015.
