Deputy Commissioner (DC) Mon, Wennyei Konyak has issued a public advisory warning residents of Mon district about the potential dangers associated with the monsoon season.
According to a DIPR report, with heavy rainfall expected, the district is likely to witness flooding, waterlogging, landslides, and rising water levels in rivers and streams, particularly in lowland and foothill areas.
As a preventive measure, the DC has advised residents to avoid vulnerable locations, including landslide-prone areas and riverbanks, where the risk of flash floods and overnight hazards is heightened. Citizens are urged to stay alert while traveling on hill roads, watch for road surface cracks, and report any suspicious signs to the authorities.
Additionally, the advisory cautions residents to be vigilant during heavy rains, listen for unusual sounds indicating debris movement, and stay away from muddy or rapidly flowing water that could signal an impending landslide or flash flood.
All Area Administrative Officers, Heads of Departments, Village Disaster Management Authorities (VDMAs), Village Council Chairmen, and GBs have been directed to stay alert and respond swiftly to any natural calamities to prevent loss of life and property during the monsoon period.
Furthermore, Village Disaster Management Authorities (VDMAs) and other local leaders will strictly monitor riverbanks, ensuring public safety. Any incidents or emergencies must be reported immediately to the DC Mon office via the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) Mon hotline at 9366748416.
