DC Niuland issues monsoon safety advisory

Dimapur

In view of the ongoing heavy rains and the likely continuation of the monsoon downpour, Deputy Commissioner of Niuland has issued a public advisory for safety and precautionary measures.
According to DIPR report, all fishing activities along rivers and streams in Niuland district have been strictly restricted while non-essential and recreational activities such as swimming, picnicking, and gathering near riverbanks, water bodies, and low-lying areas are also prohibited until further notice.
Residents living near these areas have been urged to stay alert and evacuate to higher grounds in case of rising water levels. Fishing in overflowing drains and streams has been strongly discouraged due to risks of accidents and drowning.
DC also cautioned the public on the increased chances of waterborne disease outbreaks in flood-prone areas and advised necessary precautions.
Citizens have been requested to report any damage or loss of life and property to the respective Area Administrative Officers through their village councils.
For emergency assistance, the following helpline numbers can be contacted: State Emergency Operation Centre: 1070 (toll free) / 0370-2291120/22; State Disaster Response Force (SDRF): 9366819486 / 7005806182 and DDMA Niuland: 7005047510.
