DC notifies on ASF containment zones in Kohima

DIMAPUR, SEP 1 (NPN)

In view of the reported cases of detection of African Swine Fever (ASF) at P. Khel Kohima village, the deputy commissioner (DC) Kohima, B. Henok Buchem, has notified containment measures at P. Khel, Kohima village.
According to the DC, P. Khel, Kohima village- within 1 km radius of infected premises has been identified as infected zone while areas under 10 km radius from the infected premises (9 km radius outside the infected zone) has been declared as surveillance zone.
In view of the outbreak, DC said the following restrictions will remain in force until further orders– ban on slaughter of pigs, ban on import and export of pigs and piglets and ban on transportation of pigs and pork.
It may be noted that African swine fever (ASF) is a highly contagious and deadly viral disease that affects domestic and wild pigs, leading to high mortality rates.
