DIMAPUR: Dimapur District Congress Committee (DCC) and party workers on Friday staged a peaceful protest outside Congress Bhavan, Dimapur, condemning the reported incident in Haldwani where a so‑called “purification” ritual was carried out at the venue of a Congress rally following the presence of Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge.
The protest strongly denounced the mindset behind the act, describing it as an affront to human dignity and constitutional values. The AICC had earlier termed the incident shameful and discriminatory.
Addressing the gathering, DCC Dimapur reiterated that untouchability, caste discrimination and hatred have no place in a democratic India. Protesters carried placards with messages such as “No to Untouchability, Yes to Equality,” “Human Dignity Is Not Negotiable,” and “One Constitution, One Equality, One India.”
The DCC clarified that the protest was not directed against any religion or community but against discrimination and the humiliation of human beings. It stressed that India’s strength lies in diversity, equality and constitutional fraternity, values that must be protected by every citizen. Expressing solidarity with Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, the DCC reaffirmed its commitment to defending the dignity and equality of every Indian citizen.
