Nagaland: DCCI calls for better infra in Dimapur

The Dimapur Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) has called for significant improvements in the infrastructure and amenities of Dimapur, highlighting the city’s role as the commercial hub of Nagaland.

In a press note, DCCI president Akashe Zhimomi stressed the need for better roads, uninterrupted power supply, streetlights, CCTV in crucial areas, efficient garbage disposal, and improved drainage systems. Despite being one of the highest tax-paying sectors in the state, DCCI said that the business community feels neglected due to the lack of adequate infrastructure and enabling conditions for trade and commerce.

DCCI said that the business community in Dimapur not only contributes significantly to state revenue but also plays a crucial role in employment, providing jobs to hundreds of local residents in shopping malls and showrooms, addressing the unemployment issue to some extent.

However, DCCI expressed dismay over what it perceived as “step-motherly treatment” by the government for failing to address the basic needs and security required for a thriving business environment.

Additionally, DCCI reminded the business community to strictly adhere to the notification issued by the Municipal Affairs Department on November 16, 2021 banning collection of any taxes or fees on goods covered under the Goods & Services Tax (GST) regime” by all Municipal and Town Councils across the state.

Meanwhile, DCCI also acknowledged the state government led by chief minister Neiphiu Rio for successfully implementing the Nagaland Municipal Act, 2023, ushering a ray of hope for development of the much neglected cities and towns.

Noting that the urban local bodies (ULBs) had been finally constituted after nearly two decades, DCCI said there were high expectations now that the respective municipal and town councils would fulfill their assigned duties and responsibilities with due earnest.

He said he was also optimistic that Dimapur city would now witness rapid progress and development with the installation of Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC) chairperson and his team.
