Dimapur Chamber of Commerce & Industry (DCCI) has strongly condemned the alleged armed intrusion and physical assault on family members of Mughavi N Zhimomi, vice-president of Dimapur Goods Transport Association, by unknown miscreants on September 19 night.
As per information, DCCI in a release alleged that some six-seven armed and masked miscreants came in three-four vehicles and barged into the residence of Mughavi at Mishikito village around 7 p.m. on Sunday.
DCCI said that when the miscreants found that Mughavi and his wife were not at home, they harassed their children. It was also learned that the miscreants not only physically assaulted a minor, but also damaged seven mobile phones at the residence, it added.
Asserting that such intrusion and assault on children was uncalled for, DCCI said such incidents should be condemned by one and all.
The chamber suspected that the incident could be related to the call against multiple taxation by various organisations, including business and goods transport bodies.
It urged the police to urgently and firmly act on the FIR filed by the victim’s family and promptly arrest the miscreants.
Illegal taxation continuing
DCCI also expressed alarm and shock at reports that government agencies have begun collecting illegal taxes from goods transport vehicles at police check gates and traffic intersections barely four days after the State-wide total shutdown of all shops and business houses on September 16.
It termed such acts of audacity and daylight robbery as an insult and mockery of the government of the day and demanded that the government should immediately put a stop to this.
Further, DCCI alleged that some transport unions based at border towns of Lahorijan and Khatkhati were levying illegal taxes on goods transport vehicles enroute Nagaland and Manipur.
“Equally baffling is that Nagaland police personnel are escorting these vehicles which have paid illegal taxes at Lahorijan and Khatkhati,” the release noted.
DCCI demanded that the State government should talk with its Assam counterparts to immediately stop collection of illegal taxes by transport bodies based at Lahorijan and Khatkhati.
