Dimapur Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) has welcomed the Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC) order warning individuals and organizations against conducting unauthorized checking in the markets within DMC jurisdiction.
In a press release, DCCI president Akashe Zhimomi reiterated that no individual and organization should conduct any unauthorized checks or impose penalty on business houses.
DCCI stated that individual/organization having any issue with business houses or shops should approach the competent authority or DCCI to resolve such issues.
The chamber also cautioned against any organization issuing summons to shopkeepers or business houses on flimsy grounds. It urged the responsible authorities to strictly check such menace.
DCCI stated it recently received several complaints that many unauthorized persons were conducting checks and collecting money from the business community in the name of DMC without valid identification. “These persons are also not issuing any receipt after collecting money,” DCCI president said.
DCCI stressed that only certified and genuine DMC employees should collect whatever legal fee or tax. The chamber maintained that such collection should be reflected in the DMC exchequer so money collected could be utilized towards public amenities and facelift of markets.
On price fixation, DCCI said there had been reports of sudden and unreasonable increase in prices of goods and essential commodities. In this regard, DCCI expressed the view that the chamber should also be consulted during price fixation exercises to check unnecessary fluctuation of prices and do away with the syndicate system.
Further, DCCI has appealed to the responsible department and DMC to ensure that all the roads and drainages in the commercial hub, especially markets and business centers, were repaired and cleared before the onset of monsoon.
If the repair works were not taken up promptly, DCCI reminded of the immense hardships caused by flooded roads and clogged drains during the rainy season. Dimapur being the highest revenue contributor among the districts, DCCI said the state government should not turn a blind eye to the dilapidated infrastructure of the city including roads, drains or other basic amenities.
Meanwhile, DCCI has lauded the government and its agencies for successful completion of the Road over Bridge near DDSC Stadium. It said that the hardship endured by both the public and business community during the festive season in 2024 due to closure of the ROB was finally over.
