DCO Peren organises tribal festival in Peren

District cultural office (DCO) Peren, under the department of Art & Culture (A&C) organised a tribal festival on the theme “igniting cultural traditions” on October 3, at Peren Town Stadium.
According to a DIPR report, additional deputy commissioner (ADC) Peren Keyirangding Hegui in his speech, lauded Peren district cultural office for organising such a mega event to highlight the importance of culture and traditions.
He spoke on the uniqueness of Nagas and the need for putting a price tag on one’s culture.
In this regard, the ADC encouraged the people to preserve and protect their traditions for prosperity.
He also advised the younger generation to be well acquainted with their respective cultural values and to safeguard the same as this was their identity.
Keyirangding Hegui also suggested that the people maintain proper documentation of their traditions and cultures.
Highlights of the programme included folklore on “widow and sunlight” recited by Idwaheina and Iheigongbe while Peren Students’ Union, Peren Village Heruima, Jalukie (B) Heraka youth Dance troupe and Government Higher Secondary School (GHSS) Peren cultural troupe presented cultural songs and dances.
Earlier, the programme was chaired by Dr. Baheungausile and assistant research officer Moses Newmai delivered the welcome address.
Later, vote of thanks was proposed by district cultural officer Peren, Y. Akila Quinker.
Other highlights of the programme included presentation of traditional mufflers to special invitees and others dignitaries present at the programme.
