Dimapur District Congress Committee (DDCC) president Kutuho Chishi has urged civil society organizations (CSOs) to refrain from opposing candidates belonging to the same tribe who are participating from the same colony or ward in the upcoming Urban Local Body (ULB) elections.
Addressing the media at Congress Bhavan Dimapur, on Monday, Kutuho emphasized that Congress, as a national political party with established protocols and structures, was committed to issuing tickets to any intending candidates.
He underscored that in India, being a democratic country, anyone is free to participate in ULB elections. He, therefore, appealed to CSOs not to oppose candidates from different political parties, even if they belong to the same tribe, and to support all candidates regardless of tribal ties.
Kutuho clarified that the party has not faced any opposition from CSOs on this issue. He also mentioned that several candidates have already sought party tickets, including five reserved tickets for women from Dimapur.
Meanwhile, Kutuho expressed optimism about the Congress candidate’s chances of winning the lone Lok Sabha seat in Nagaland, the result of which will be declared on June 4.
