Expressing concern over the plight of class X students of Diphupar government high school (DGHS), who appeared for HSLC exam 2016 with no Maths teacher, deputy district education officer (DDEO) Dimapur R. Amongla Jamir on Thursday said the matter has been forwarded to the higher authority.
Amongla told Nagaland Post that almost all government schools were going through the same issue (maths and science teachers). She said unlike DGHS, other schools had at least one teacher appointed for the subject. When asked about the pupil to teacher ratio, she pointed out that the ratio in Nagaland was 30:1 though the national average was 25:1. Lamenting on the problem of lack of teachers, she said it was due to the many upgradation of middle schools to high schools and high schools to higher secondary schools without proper replacement of teacher.
