The Dimapur District GB Association (DDGBA), Dimapur Urban Colony Chairman Federation (DUCCF) and GB Union Dimapur Sardar (GBUD-S) have condemned and asked the Rising People’s Party president Joel Naga to clarify, within 14 days, the logic behind his “misleading statement” that “GBs are not required in town areas”.
In a statement, the unions said that this issue, among other crucial matters concerning Dimapur, were deliberated during the joint meeting held on October 4. With regards to the issue of GB New Market, it said the three bodies formed a five-member fact finding committee, with two members each from DDGBA and DUCCF and one member from GBUD-S, which was to submit its report within three days for further course of action.
DDGBA, while respecting every individual’s opinion, however, said it was dismayed by the statement made by Joel Naga, adding that it was very irresponsible and not befitting a leader of a State political party.
They maintained that “Nagaland is under Article 371(A), where every area whether Urban or Rural comes under customary law.” The unions asked Joel whether he meant to say that any part of Nagaland once it becomes urban, will not fall under Article 371(A)?
They reminded that Dimapur GBs were tirelessly carrying out their duties in assisting the administration and maintaining law and order in their respective colonies without any pay, and should be acknowledged even if it was is not appreciated by all.
“They are the link and bridge between the government and the resident,” it added. On the issue of drug menace particularly Sunflower addiction, the house decided to extend full co-operation and help to the law enforcing agencies in their endeavour to tackle the problem and also urged the state government to set up proper rehabilitation and detox centre.
The house also expressed its sincere appreciation to DGP Nagaland Rupin Sharma for going all out to tackle the problems of alcohol and drugs in the Police department in particular and Nagaland in general.
