
Dimapur District Gaon Bura Association (DDGBA) went ahead in electing/selecting the new team led by Khehovi Chophi Hd. GB for the term 2019-23 at Nagaland Science Centre here Tuesday. After the election, Nagaland GB Federation (NGBF) president Shalim Konyak called upon GBs to understand each other, maintain unity and work together for the interest of the Naga people.
Konyak said GBs must remain united and work for the welfare of the Naga people.
Describing duties of GBs as voluntary service, Shalim said, “GBs who work for the good of people should continue to lead the GB organisations”. He then urged the GBs to do away with any tribal affiliation and work together as Nagas. “Every GB should be accommodating so as to have oneness within the Naga society,” said Shalim.
NGBF general secretary, Shikuto Zhalipu, said DDGBA was not a tribal organisation but an association of GBs from eight administrative units irrespective of tribes. He then called for “greater understanding” among the GBs to work for the whole community.
Six office bearers were elected/selected by 25 executive members out of 37 members eligible for voting. The following GBs took oath of affirmation– president Khehovi Chophi, vice president Theyehuyi Veyie, jt. secretaries- Hokishe Zhimomi and Rajalal Naiding (minority), treasurer G. Kami, publicity & info secy. R. Changkum (ENPO) and convenor judicial Lhovishe Achumi.
According to outgoing DDGBA president, Tokuho Suhoi Neho and sessional secretary, W. Kholie Kapfo, the remaining vacant post(s) would be filled up by the new team and handing/takin over would held on January 25, 10 a.m. at DDGBA office, 5th Mile.
It may be noted that Chakhroma GBs Union had opposed election but urged that the DDGBA continue with the convention of nomination of office bearers on rotational basis. CGBU had warned that if its appeal was not heeded to then it will be compelled to walk out of the DDGBA.
