A Table Top Exercise on disaster preparedness was conducted at the DC Office Conference Hall, Chümoukedima on February 23 as part of the Mock Exercise for 2025–26. The programme was organised by the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), Chümoukedima in coordination with the 12th Battalion of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF).
The exercise aimed to evaluate planning mechanisms, coordination procedures, and decision-making processes during emergencies. Presiding over the meeting, SDO (Civil) Chümoukedima, Shreyansee Jain, thanked the NDRF team for their presentation and stressed the importance of advance planning and clarity of roles among departments. She also urged public participation in the upcoming mock exercise.
Persist Zimik, inspector (GD), 12th Battalion, NDRF, delivered a detailed presentation on the role of NDRF and the significance of mock exercises in enhancing disaster preparedness.
He highlighted that the North Eastern region and Himalayan belt fall under Seismic Zone VI, making the area highly vulnerable to earthquakes, and emphasized the need for public awareness and preparedness.
The Table Top Exercise sought to identify operational gaps, strengthen coordination among stakeholders, and enhance readiness ahead of the full-scale mock exercise scheduled for February 24 at Chümoukedima Village Ground.
Representatives from NDRF, Fire & Emergency Services, Transport Department, Chümoukedima Village Council, and civil society organisations attended the meeting.
