In preparation for the monsoon and any calamity, Kiphire District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) discussed monsoon preparedness of the district, Friday at the Conference Hall of Duty Commissioner (DC) Kiphire office.
The meeting presided by the DC Kiphire and chairman DDMA, Temsuwati Longkumer, instructed National Highway (R&B) to ensure that town roads, including those leading to villages, are cleared before heavy monsoon rains begin, for the safety of the public and convenience of transportation during the upcoming elections.
Other departments were also directed to be prepared for any eventuality. The owners of petrol pumps were informed to maintain stock for emergencies, while Kiphire Town Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KTCCI) was asked to ensure the availability of food and commodities.
Fire and emergency services, the medical and IR Battalion, and other stakeholder departments were instructed to be ready for their specific duties.
During the discussion, the members also decided to organise mass social work in town areas to clear stagnant water and drainage blocked by waste deposits, in order to prevent landslides and protect the public.
