DIMAPUR: District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) Longleng held an emergency meeting on July 24 at the DC’s conference hall, Longleng, chaired by EAC Yachem C. Tsalimse Sangtam.
During the meeting, the chairman entrusted all Heads of Departments (HoDs) under DDMA to verify detailed reports of property, livestock and house damages in every village and to fill the format provided by the Home Department. He informed that the DDMA has set up a District Emergency Control Room at the DC’s office and urged HoDs to report any casualties immediately. The chairman further stated that restoration of road connectivity would take two to three weeks, while fuel and other essential commodities remain limited. Officers were directed to ensure judicious use of scarce resources until roads are restored and to communicate the directive to their respective departments.
Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner Longleng W. Manpai Phom has issued an advisory in view of the prevailing adverse weather conditions and the recent cloudburst, which has caused rockfalls, mudslides, landslides, sinking and road damage across several locations in the district, rendering travel hazardous.
In the interest of public safety, the DC advised residents to avoid venturing out unless absolutely necessary and to minimise movement, particularly along vulnerable roads and landslide prone areas, until the situation improves. Citizens were further cautioned to avoid non essential travel, exercise extreme caution during heavy rainfall and refrain from using vulnerable stretches prone to landslides, rockfalls and road subsidence.
The District Administration urged the public to follow advisories and directions issued by authorities and to immediately report incidents of landslides, road blockages or emergencies to the nearest authority. It stated that the situation is being closely monitored and every effort is being made to restore normalcy at the earliest, while soliciting the cooperation of all citizens in ensuring public safety.
