Dimapur District Village Council Chairmen’s Association (DDVCCA) has clarified to the Western Sumi Kukami Hoho (WSKH) and its units that formation of the association in no way encroach the powers and function of the GB institution.
In a press release, DDVCC vice president, Keron Janger, and secretary, Vitho Zao, stated that DDVCCA was formed with the objective to have better coordination among member villages, uphold common platform to foster development through good governance with local responsibilities, extend cooperation and assist the government in implementing various developmental activities in the villages.
The association pointed out that the village administrator and function as per the Tribal and Village Council Act 1978, adding that the formation of DDVCCA would neither change nor alter the provisions of the said Act.
Maintaining it has the highest respect for village chieftainship as per traditional and customary practices of the Nagas, DDVCCA said it has no clash of interest with GBs whatsoever as the powers and functions of those two entities were differently and separately empowered by the government.
“In all good faith, the DDVCCA is willing to sit across the table for any discussion or clarification if any with any organisation for better understanding on its formation as an organisation,” it stated.
