De Operettas Music Institute Kohima hosted its sixth annual recital on September 14, at RCEMPA, Jotsoma, under the theme “The Art of Music Creation”. The event featured a stunning collection of original pieces composed by both the teachers and students of the institute.
The recital, which showcased the talent and creativity fostered within the institute, was graced by special guest managing director of Nagaland College of Music and Fine Arts, Vesato Theluo. In his keynote address, Theluo emphasized the potential of Nagas to excel on the global stage in the field of music. He encouraged the students and attendees by stating, “The only difference between raw talent and great achievement is training and refinement. While many may possess raw musical talent, it is through dedication, discipline, and countless hours of practice that this talent can truly shine.”
Theluo stressed the importance of hard work and discipline, stating, “There are no shortcuts in music. If one desires to be a good musician, the only path is through practice, practice, and practice again.” He elaborated that while a polished performance might appear effortless, it is a result of years of dedication and meticulous effort. He further added that the principle of discipline, which is vital to the art of music, extends beyond music and into every profession in life.
Director of the institute Surhuveyi Tetseo, informed that the recital featured 14 original compositions and 3 arrangements performed by the teachers and students. Welcoming the attendees, he noted that the institute’s teachers and students had put in months of hard work and preparation for the recital, and the event was a testament to their dedication and passion for music.
