Minister of Health & Family Welfare, S. Pangnyu Phom expressed his appreciation to the citizens of Kohima village for their cooperation, understanding and kindness towards the State government and the department of Health & Family Welfare for making it possible to setup the Nagaland Medical College within Kohima Village jurisdiction. He was speaking during the dedication service for the commencement of construction of Nagaland Medical College, Kohima on October 5.
According to DIPR, in his speech, Pangnyu further appealed for collective efforts from the government, department and community to make the first Medical College in the State functional by 2020.
Advisor for Rural Development, Dr. Nicky Kire requested the Medical minister to take the construction of the college on priority. Advisor for IPR, SCERT and Village Guards, Toshi Wungtung also stated that it was the realization of a long awaited dream of the people of Nagaland and he termed the event as a breakthrough.
Vice chairman of Kohima Village Council, Khriezothie Chielie expressed his gratitude and appealed to the government and the department to play a pro-active role in making the college operational at the earliest as scores of patients will benefit from it. He also gave assurances on behalf of the villagers that they will extend their full support for the progress and expansion of the college in every possible way and they will make sure that no obstacles arise in the process.
The occasion was also graced by minister of Soil & Conservation, Women & Child Development, Kashiho Sangtam; advisor for Fire & Emergency Services, SIRD & Relief & Rehabilitation, Phowang Konyak; advisor, Law & Justice, Border Affairs and Treasuries & Accounts, Dr. Longriniken; advisor, Irrigation & Flood Control, Namri Nchang and advisor DUDA, Bongkhao.
Regional director MH&FW, Guwahati, Dr. P Gogoi was also present during the service. The Nagaland Medical College will be constructed on a 50.20 acre of land at Phriebagei Kohima Village. The dedicatory prayer was pronounced by Rev. ViwelieKhezhie, pastor Khedi Baptist Church Kohima.
