Deficiencies at Niuland CHC

Niuland Area Citizens’ Forum (NACF) has alleged that Niuland District Headquarters Community Health Centre (CHC) has been functioning for several years without adequate numbers of doctors and nurses, resulting in poor healthcare services for the public.
According to NACF, several expensive medical equipment, including X-ray, Ultrasound and ECG machines, have been left unused and dumped in a dilapidated storeroom. The poor storage condition, it said, was causing damage to these vital machines and further depriving patients of essential diagnostic services.
The forum pointed out that due to staff shortages and lack of properly maintained equipment, the CHC has been in a state of disrepair and unable to provide adequate medical facilities to the people. As per established CHC norms, a minimum of five qualified doctors is mandatory. However, at present, only one Senior Medical Officer (SMO) and one AYUSH doctor are serving the entire district. NACF termed this shortfall a case of administrative negligence, posing serious risks to public health.
It further stated that a single CHC catering to the entire district cannot function effectively with such inadequate staffing, as the absence of required medical professionals compromises emergency care, maternal and child health services, specialist consultations and overall patient care.
NACF therefore asserted that it would not remain silent on the matter and demanded immediate appointment of the required number of doctors and healthcare staff to make the CHC fully functional as per prescribed standards. The forum reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding the medical needs of the public and vowed to continue raising its voice until all deficiencies are addressed and proper healthcare services restored.
