NEW DELHI, MAY 9 (AGENCIES): Delhi has been placed on high alert following intelligence inputs about a possible terror threat, prompting police and security agencies to intensify surveillance across sensitive locations in the national capital.
According to officials, alerts warned of possible attempts to target crowded areas and prominent offices in central Delhi through suicide attacks, vehicle-borne improvised explosive devices (IEDs), shootings and coordinated strikes.
Police have been instructed to maintain strict vigil on suspicious movements, unattended objects and vehicles parked in sensitive areas.
Security has been significantly tightened around the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) headquarters on Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Marg and nearby government establishments with additional deployment of armed personnel, barricading and intensified vehicle checks. Anti-sabotage inspections are also being carried out at key government buildings, political offices, markets, transport hubs and other crowded places across the city.
Bomb disposal squads, sniffer dog units, quick reaction teams and the Delhi Fire Service have been put on alert.
Security measures have additionally been reinforced in vulnerable settlements and law-and-order sensitive areas, while local police are conducting random checks and verification drives.
Senior officers are closely monitoring the situation and reviewing security arrangements throughout the capital.
