As part of anti-dengue campaign in Dimapur district, a dengue awareness programme for teachers of private schools, colleges, and seminaries was held at L.G. Hall, Christian Institute of Health Sciences and Research (CIHSR). The programme was organised by CIHSR in collaboration with Dimapur District National Vector Borne Diseases Control Programme (NVBDCP) as part of public-private partnership intervention under the theme “Fight the Bite, Beat Dengue.” Consultant, general medicine, Dr. Nokchur Imchen, presented on how dengue virus affects the human body in different stages and also highlighted the different symptoms associated with each stage.
Biologist NVBDCP, Venezo, sensitized the participants on the breeding sites and control measures and also on the life cycle of Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus mosquitoes which are the two vectors of dengue-virus spreading mosquitoes. He also showed a live presentation of various stages of mosquito larvae for the participants to observed. He stated that these mosquitoes breed in stagnant water found around their house such as old car tyres, broken bottles, or any object that retains water.
Head of Department Community Health Development, Dr. Atsung Aier, while interacting with the participants presented a checklist on Anti Dengue Action Plan for the participants to follow during the Anti-Dengue Action Campaign in their respective schools. Assistant professor CON, Neiketonuo Medom, and her team also demonstrated on stimulation ideas on how mosquitoes can breed; such as on household waste, natural waste like fallen banana trunk, coconut tree leaves, bamboo and other wastes found around them. District Vector Borne officer-cum-district surveillance officer Dimapur, Dr. Kavito Zhimomi, highlighted on the current scenario of dengue cases in the State and the district in particular. He called for the support of the community to fight the epidemic.
The programme was chaired by quality cell cum Training & Education Department, Laishram Vidylakshmi, and welcome address was delivered by Medical Superintendent CIHSR, Dr. Clement Momin and vote of thanks were proposed by Dr. Atsung Aier respectively. It may be mentioned that similar awareness programme will be held again on September 22 at LG Hall, CIHSR for teachers of government institutions.
