Deptt working to amend industrial policy: Hekani Jakhalu

Advisor for industries and commerce, Hekani Jakhalu, disclosed that the department of industries and commerce was working to amend the existing industrial policy in the state and expressed hope that it would be done within the next six months.
Speaking to media persons on the sidelines of an event at Niuland on Thursday, the advisor stated that the proposed amendment to industrial policy seeks to create a more conducive environment for entrepreneurs, investors, and businesses.
She said the amended policy would be entrepreneur-friendly and business-friendly.


While details of any amendments to the policy were not disclosed, the advisor, however, asserted that the department was “diligently working” on crafting a policy that aligned with the interests of various stakeholders.
She said that the amendments were still in the process and refrained from providing further details.
Asked about plans to utilize the amount allocated to the department in the recent budget, advisor said that the “even though the funds may look big”, but since there were corporations under I&C department such as Nagaland Hotels Limited, Handloom and Handicraft Corporation, Nagaland Khadi Village Industries Board(NKVIB), etc., the department make sure that corporations were also effectively utilizing the allocated funds.


On the Confederation of Nagaland Chambers of Commerce and Industries (CNCCI)’s demand for CBI probe into an alleged rice scam, the advisor stressed the need for credible and well-researched inquiries.
She, however, refrained from commenting on the matter, saying the matter did not fall within her department’s jurisdiction.
Acknowledging the role of pressure groups in maintaining transparency and accountability, Hekani, however, requested public to be cautious before passing any remarks stressing the need for responsible and measured discourse on matters of public interest.
