Deputy CM Patton, more organisations condemn assault on nursing student

Deputy chief minister (Home), Y Patton and various organisations have condemned the horrific physical assault on a nursing student at District Hospital Dimapur on February 24.


Dy CM Patton: Deputy chief minister (Home), Y Patton was appalled by the recent incident at District Hospital Dimapur, where a trainee nurse student was molested by an employee of District Hospital, which is despicable and needs condemnation by all.


In a condemnation, Patton appreciated the promptness of the Commissioner of Police, officers and personnel of Dimapur police for the timely arrest of the accused. The authorities have been asked to expedite the case for delivering justice and befitting punishment be awarded as per the law. Patton wished the victim a speedy recovery from the traumatic situation she has undergone both mentally and physically.


NCD: Naga Council Dimapur (NCD) has vehemently condemned the diabolic act committed on one female nursing student at District Hospital Dimapur. In a condemnation, NCD said such a gruesome act perpetrated against a woman at a public place of medical institution in broad day light is nothing but a pre-planned provocation against the sanctity of women and for which NCD strongly stands against and condemned such evil act in a society.

While acknowledging the swift action and arrest of the culprit initiated by the law enforcing authority under the supervision of Commissioner of Police, Dimapur, Kevithuto Sophie, it is appealed to the concerned authority that no stone should be left unturned in the entire process of investigation so as to provide befitting punishment to the culprits as per the penal law of the land and no bail should be granted to the culprit.


NCD, with the support and solidarity of all Tribal Hohos and Civil Society Organizations based in Dimapur, has been appealing to the citizens/Dimapurians and Dimapur visitors to respect and honour the integrity of Naga Council in upholding Free-Crime-Dimapur city.

Therefore, once again NCD has appealed to all the right-thinking citizens and CSOs to render full cooperation to the law enforcing authority in the exercise of investigation so that justice is prevailed without delay. NCD also urged the government to engage maximum police personnel along with Mahila police personnel at designated location within the premise of District Hospital Dimapur and other vulnerable places.


NCD appreciated the Western Chakhesang Hoho and Chakhesang Women Organisation for understanding and complied with the process of investigation of the incident being handled by the law enforcement. NCD also extended its fullest support and solidarity to the victim while fighting for justice and prayed for speedy recovery of victim’s health.


DLH: Dimapur Lotha Hoho (DLH) has strongly condemned the physical assault on trainee nurse at the DH Dimapur by hospital employee without provocation. In a condemnation, DLH has expressed shock and outrage over the incident and said that such violent activity has no place in a modern civilized society.


DLH has appealed to the law enforcing agencies to press thorough and unbiased investigation into any possible involvement of other accomplices and award befitting punishment as per the law if found guilty. They also expressed deep concern over security lapses and requested the able authority to maintain strict and elaborate security arrangement within the presmises to prevent such incident from recurrence in the near future.


The DLH expressed solidarity to the victim and family at this hour of despair and urged the authority to deliver justice to the victim at the earliest.


DLYO: The Dimapur Lotha Youth Organization (DLYO), has strongly condemned the brutal assault and heinous act perpetrated against one of its sister, a nursing student at District Hospital Dimapur.

The organization has expressed deep concern over the incident, calling it an inhumane and unacceptable act that violates the dignity and safety of individuals, particularly women in the society.


In their statement, DLYO emphasized on the need for justice, urging the authorities to conduct a thorough investigation and take stringent action against those responsible for this reprehensible crime and punish those culprit as per the law without delay. They also called upon the community to stand in solidarity with the victim and her family while ensuring that such incidents do not recur in the future.


The organization has reiterated its commitment in safeguarding the rights and security of its people, especially women in their society and has appealed to the law enforcement agencies to conduct a thorough investigation.

They also urged civil society organizations, tribal bodies, and the general public to work collectively towards creating a safer environment where such acts of violence are not tolerated.

The DLYO, remains steadfast in its resolve to fight against any form of violence and injustice, reaffirming that they will continue to advocate for the protection and well-being of the Naga community as a whole.


SYO: Sumi Youth Organization (SYO) has expressed its utmost exasperation and vehemently condemn the heinous incident wherein, a 22-year-old GNM 2nd year student was physically and sexually assaulted by one senior hospital staff identified as Likao Ezung ‘Sardar of the sweepers’ within the Hospital premises while on duty.


In a condemnation, SYO stated it was deeply infuriated by the act committed by this lecherous predator which undermines and challenges the safety, dignity and wellbeing of women especially at the work place. SYO stated that such inhumane and diabolical act is directly affronting the proud tag we bear as “The safest state for woman in India” which is a threat to the strong aspirations of Naga populace longing to live in peace and harmony.


The contemplation to sexually assault a Naga woman in her own land is not merely an attack on an individual but a direct challenge to the unity, dignity and identity of each one of us as a whole, beyond tribe and community, said a statement.

They applauded the East Dimapur Police for promptly apprehending the culprit. However, it is imperative to demand that the law enforcement must leave no stone unturned and treat this very crime with utmost sensitivity, ensuring that the culprit is given a befitting punishment as per the law without bail.

With a deep sense of empathy, SYO stands by the victim and her family, extending heartfelt prayers for a prompt restoration to wellness.


DAYO: Dimapur Ao Youth Organisation (DAYO) has strongly condemned the shocking and reprehensible assault on a fellow naga sister nursing trainee at Dimapur District Hospital, allegedly committed by a hospital staff member. In a condemnation, DAYO said such an act of violence, especially against a woman was deeply disturbing and goes against the values and traditions of the Naga society where respect and dignity for women are held in the highest regard.


DAYO acknowledged and appreciated the swift action taken by the police in apprehending the accused in record time. However, we urged the administration and law enforcement authorities to ensure that justice is delivered at the earliest and that the perpetrator is dealt with according to the full extent of the law.

They called upon the concerned authorities to implement stringent security measures within hospital premises to prevent such heinous incidents from recurring. “Hospitals should be places of safety and care, not of fear and insecurity. It is imperative that all necessary steps be taken to protect patients, students, and staff alike. DAYO stands in solidarity with the victim and her family.


ASTD: The Ao Senso Telongjem Dimapur (ASTD) has strongly condemned the horrific act of physical assault on a nursing student by an employee of Dimapur District Hospital. In a condemnation, ASTD said this incident was not only inhuman but also a grave violation of human rights.

“Such acts of violence have no place in our society, especially within a care giving institution that should be a safe place for healing”, it stated. ASTD demanded strict action against the perpetrator(s) and urged the authorities to ensure justice for the victim.

Violence against women and students is unacceptable and must be met with full force of the law. ASTD stand in solidarity with the victim and the family for justice.
