A team of officers from the directorate of Geology and Mining (DGM), Dimapur, led by additional director and HoD, Dr. Kenyelo Rengma, visited various coal bearing districts in the state and conducted awareness campaign with concerned Coal Mining Lease (CML) holders, Outsource licensees, Coal Operators, Coal mine workers, Village Councils and other stake holders.
A press release by DGM informed that the team conducted awareness campaign at Chungtiayimsen and Tuli in Mokokchung, Naginimora in Mon, and Merapani in Wokha, from March 5 to 7.
In all the four venues, the department officers gave a powerpoint presentation on the topic “Coal Mining Preparedness” laying special emphasis on role and responsibilities of village council and mine owners/licensee in assisting department to streamline coal mining activities in the state. The gatherings were further briefed on adopting systematic and scientific method of mining to mitigate the adverse impacts of coal mining on the environment.
