DIMAPUR, JUL 15 (NPN): Two days after the powerful Improvised Explosive Device (IED) blast at Chümoukedima ‘A’ that killed an Assam Rifles jawan and injured five others, a team from the National Security Guard (NSG) Black Cat Bomb Disposal Unit arrived in Nagaland on Wednesday to assist in the investigation.
aThe NSG team joined the National Investigation Agency (NIA) and Nagaland Police at the blast site as investigations continued.
Speaking to Nagaland Post over phone after inspecting the site, Director General of Police Nagaland Rupin Sharma said investigators were pursuing all possible leads into the July 13 blast. However, he said no major breakthrough had been made so far in identifying those behind the attack.
DGP said the investigating agencies were taking all necessary steps to identify and apprehend those responsible, but declined to divulge further details.
He also confirmed that the NSG team carried out a detailed inspection of the blast site as part of the probe.
Meanwhile, police dismissed as false a viral social media message claiming that one person had been arrested in connection with the blast.
According to reliable police sources, the individual was only detained for questioning by the Assam Rifles and was later interrogated by Nagaland Police.
Sources clarified that it was a case of mistaken identity and no credible evidence linking the individual to the blast was found. The person was subsequently released after due verification.
Police reiterated that the viral message was fake and urged the public not to circulate unverified information while the investigation remains underway.
