IMPHAL, Oct 28 (NPN): In the backdrop of recent spate of violence directly related to the law and order situation of restive Manipur and close to the heel of upcoming Assembly election, top officials of the Central security forces –Assam Rifles and CRPF – reviewed security and operational related matters.
Director Generals (DGs) of Assam Rifles Lt Gen Vikas Lakhera and CRPF (Central Reserve Police Force) GP Singh were in the restive state on official tours.
Apart from reviewing operational preparedness of the forces they are commanding, the two top senior officials held a joint high-level operational review meeting in Imphal on Tuesday, an official source said.
Also attended by senior officials from both forces, the deliberations of the meeting focused on strengthening inter-force synergy and joint operational readiness.
While reviewing the prevailing ground security scenario, the meeting also charted a cohesive roadmap to sustain peace and public order across the state, the source added.
The joint high-level security review meeting was followed by operational preparedness of the forces they are commanding separately.
CRPF DG GP Singh visited the Tactical Training Hub (TTH) at Chilchil in Kangpokpi district where he reviewed the operational preparedness of the CRPF and its CoBRA unit while reviewing the ground security scenario.
The DG also interacted with the troops of 86 Bn and the 210 CoBRA Bn.
“Embracing the spirit of unity and operational solidarity, he (DG) joined the troops of 86 Bn and the 210 CoBRA Bn for a traditional Bada Khana,” the CRPF said, in a post on its official social media handles.
“Breaking bread side-by-side with personnel across all ranks, the interaction reflected the unshakeable bond, high morale, and deep camaraderie shared on the ground,” the post added.
Notably, the two battalions of the CoBRA unit of the CRPF were deployed in the state in the wake of ongoing violence crisis which was earlier concentrated between the Meitei and Kuki but now expanded to Naga and Kuki in the hill districts.
Meanwhile, continuing his official tour in the restive state, DG of the Assam Rifles Lieutenant General Vikas Lakhera today visited Moreh and Chongjang in Tengnoupal district and assessed the security preparedness and reviewed ongoing border fencing and infrastructure development along the international border.
During his visit to Moreh, Lakhera interacted with local residents to hear their concerns and gain an understanding of the prevailing security situation in the border town.
He also inspected key crossing points and reviewed the progress of infrastructure works, including the ongoing border fencing project.
At Chongjang, the DG conducted an on-site inspection of the fencing work, assessing its technical and physical progress.
During the review, he emphasized the need for continuous surveillance, operational readiness and effective coordination among security stakeholders, official sources said.
The visit also focused on assessing ongoing infrastructure projects and reviewing security arrangements along the border.
The inspection was a part of the Assam Rifles’ operational reviews in sensitive areas, with the force emphasizing border management, engagement with local communities and efforts to maintain peace and stability in the region, the officials added.
Manipur has been besieged by violence crisis since the outbreak of Meitei-Kuki conflict in May 2023 which is now diverting to Naga-Kuki conflict.
At the same time, the restive state will go to poll for election of new members of the it’s 60-seat legislative Assembly in the early part of next year.
The ground preparation for the elections had already set in motion.
