Vector Borne Disease Control Programme (VBDCP) under the department of Health and Family Welfare (DH&FW) observed anti- dengue month in the month of July.
A press release by State Program Officer (NVBDCP) Dr. Neisakho Kere informed that as part of the campaign, awareness on dengue was carried out in the selected colonies and villages of highly and low endemic districts like Mon, Mokokchung, Kohima and Wokha and the public were educated about dengue fever.
At the awareness camp, other vector borne diseases were also informed to the public for their safety while the team under vector borne have committed to work tirelessly during the anti -dengue month and continued to keep working till the disease is controlled.
Maintaining that there was an increase cases of dengue in Dimapur following the onset of monsoon, the team sought cooperation and participation from the public to control the spread of dengue fever.
The department informed that the Urban Vector Borne Disease Scheme (UVBDS) staffs based at Dimapur have been carrying out the activities in the entire 100 colonies, however indices for vector surveillance (container index, house index and breteau index) have not gone down below the outbreak indication level.
There was an indication that mosquito larvae were found abundantly in and around the houses of the various colonies and particularly at Nagarjan colony, where dengue cases have been detected every now and then. In this regard, the department informed that UVBDS and DVBO Dimapur have been carrying out fogging to control the mosquito menace. However, dengue cannot be control immediately and therefore every colony/ village have been informed to remove all the materials in and around the house such as water collected during rainy season, covering of household use water storage like syntax, cement tank, drums, bucket etc. The department also informed on various available test kits for diagnosing dengue which were used by different public and private health institutions.
Since, dengue has been considered as notifiable disease, every institution or clinician have been directed to immediately report to the district authority either to the CMO or DVBO for further necessary actions.
