DHO Dimapur holds training

A training on developing value addition units for fruits and vegetables under North Eastern Council (NEC) 2020-21 was conducted by District Horticulture Officer (DHO) Dimapur office at Green Park SHN, Friday.
At the training, DHO Dimapur, Temsu Longkumer highlighted the gathering on various schemes under NEC and informed that ten villages comprising of 100 beneficiaries were selected after verification by the higher authorities. He then encouraged the beneficiaries to make best use of the machineries and also share their whatever they learnt in the training to other members of the Self-Help Groups (SHGs).
Longkumer informed that the department would also conduct “verification programmes” to ensure that the materials are being used judiciously. Resource person, School of Agricultural Sciences and Rural Development (SASRD)- Nagaland University (NU), associate professor, Dr Rokolhuu Keditsu said the northeast region was rich in fruits and vegetables, however, the region also suffer significant losses and waste due to insufficient preservative methods. She, therefore, urged the farmers to venture into utilising scientific method to preserve their produces, which in turn would yield them more income.
During the training, a hands-on training on making pineapple jam was also demonstrated which was followed by an interactive session.
