District Health Society, Zunheboto, observed World Malaria Day-cum-Malaria Elimination Task Force Meeting under the theme “Malaria Ends with Us: Reinvest, Reimagine, Reignite” on April 25 at DC Conference Hall, Zunheboto.
The event was graced by DC, Zunheboto, Rahul Bhanudas Mali as special guest.
Deputy Commissioner in his speech, praised the District Vector Borne Disease Control (DVBDC) team and health workers for their efforts.
He stressed the importance of community involvement and urged councillors, NGOs, and civil groups to support awareness drives, cleanliness efforts, and the distribution of mosquito nets and repellents. He reminded the public that malaria was preventable and curable by keeping the surroundings clean and timely medical care.
Dr. Esther Kath, in her keynote address, highlighted the district’s commitment of eliminating malaria by 2030 and stressed the need for collective action. She noted significant progress due to dedicated health workers, improved diagnostics, effective treatments, and Long-Lasting Insecticidal Nets (LLINs) distribution.
However, she cautioned against complacency, citing challenges like climate change, cross-border transmission, and limited healthcare access. District Vector Borne Consultant, Mudosayi Hurie, presented an overview of the district’s epidemiological status and recent trends in malaria, highlighting progress made and areas needing continued focus.
The top two best-performing ASHAs and Surveillance Workers in the district were felicitated at the event for their dedication and valuable contributions.
The programme was chaired by Unice, DEO (NVBDCP) and vote of thanks by Malaria Inspector (NVBDCP) Khekuto.
Assam Rifles: To mark World Malaria Day, Assam Rifles (AR) organised an interactive session in Ngwalwa, and nearby villages in Peren district, under the theme “Malaria ends with us: Reinvest, Reimagine, Reignite.”
The session was anchored by health experts from AR, covering symptoms, causes, transmission, and preventive measures against malaria. It was translated in vernacular for assimilation for wider understanding. A total of 240 residents attended the lecture which was followed by an interactive session.
Another program on awareness lecture was held at Minister Hills Baptist High School, Kohima, to educate students on malaria’s causes, prevention, and treatment. Coordinated by the school and Assam Rifles, it highlighted the theme: “Accelerating the fight against malaria for a healthier world.” The lecture was delivered by Regimental Medical Officer of Assam Rifles who engaged 175 students with an interactive session.
The event concluded with a pledge taken by the students to spread awareness about malaria in their homes and communities, reinforcing the role of young voices in building a malaria-free future.
