DIMAPUR: Department of Industries and Commerce (DIC), in collaboration with Nagaland Industrial Development Corporation Ltd. (NIDC), conducted a two day Technology Clinic on “Digital & Mechanical Interventions in Handloom and Handicraft Processing” on September 29 and 30 at the Nagaland Tool Room & Training Centre (NTTC), Dimapur.
According to a press release from DIC, the first day focused on handloom and textile development, covering areas such as natural dyeing, sustainable finishing, quality standardisation, and market oriented production. Participants also received practical exposure to digitisation of traditional handloom motifs and Pre Loom CAD (DigiBunai), highlighting the use of digital technology for design development and preservation of traditional motifs.
The second day centred on handicrafts, bamboo products, and traditional jewellery. Sessions included NHDC support, market and production processes for traditional jewellery, and a practical clinic on additive manufacturing and 3D printing at NTTC.
Participants also underwent hands on training in bamboo splitting, slicing, sizing, value added manufacturing, utility stick production, and quality finishing, with emphasis on improving product quality, efficiency and marketability.
The programme was conducted with support from technical experts and resource persons from NTTC, NHDC, Naga Feather Pvt. Ltd., Weaving Service Centre, and Kuls Polyethylene Product Unit.
Attended by 40 MSMEs, the programme aimed to strengthen practical knowledge and technical skills in applying modern digital and mechanical technologies to traditional handloom, handicraft, bamboo, and jewellery related activities.
