DIMAPUR, JUL 11 (NPN): The Dimapur Urban Council Chairmen’s Federation (DUCCF), Gaon Bura Union Dimapur Sadar (GBUDS) and Dimapur District Gaon Bura Association (DDGBA) held a consultative meeting with non-Naga civil society organisations (CSOs) in Dimapur at Hotel Saramati on Friday to discuss issues affecting the city.
According to a press release issued through its media cell convenor D. Jonah Achumi, the meeting was convened in view of different communities residing and operating business establishments in various localities under the guardianship of chairmen, gaon buras and village councils.
The meeting was attended by DUCCF president Zasivikho Zakiesato, GBUDS president Kholie Kapfo and DDGBA president Hokuto Zhimomi, along with representatives of Bihari Samaj, Nagaland Bhojpuri Samaj, Marwari Samaj, Jain Samaj, Agarwal Samaj, Gorkha Union, Oswal Samaj, Dimapur Bengali Samaj, Sikh Samaj, Telugu Samaj, Gorkha Youth Club Dimapur, Muslim Council Dimapur, Dimapur Meitei Council, Oria Samaj, Tibetan Welfare Dimapur, Brahman Samaj and other organisations.
During the meeting, participants held discussions on issues relating to the Inner Line Permit (ILP), indigenity and the impact of the floating population on city resources and services. They also deliberated on ways to address these issues while ensuring community stability.
The participants further discussed the issue of monetary collection by various unions and the practices relating to issuance of permits to such unions. The house expressed concern over the burden such collections placed on businesses and residents and explored measures for greater regulation, transparency and accountability to streamline civic processes.
The joint leadership of the three apex bodies said the consultative meeting was an important step towards strengthening cooperation between Dimapur’s traditional apex bodies and the non-Naga communities.
They stated that Dimapur, being a multi-cultural city, required all stakeholders to work together in addressing common challenges, adding that discussions on ILP, union collections and community welfare were significant steps towards that objective.
Representatives of the participating CSOs welcomed the initiative, appreciated the platform for open dialogue and expressed their commitment to work with the DUCCF, GBUDS and DDGBA in promoting the welfare, safety and development of Dimapur.
The meeting concluded with a resolution to continue such consultations and work towards developing practical solutions for issues affecting all sections of society in Dimapur.
