Naga Council Dimapur (NCD)’s vigilance committee and Dimapur-based civil society organisations (CSOs), which discussed the prevailing plight and grievances of Dimapur public at a consultative meeting on October 7, 2023, have appealed to the Director General of Police (DGP) Nagaland, Rupin Sharma, to handle the responsibility and task of abating and eradicating current prevailing and alarming drug menace especially amongst the youth and students in Dimapur.
In a press release, NCD vigilance committee convener Joseph Lemtur and co-convener Hotoshe Sumi informed that the Dimapur-based CSOs appreciated DGP Nagaland for taking stringent action on those narcotic drug users amongst police personnel.
In this regard, the leaders of CSOs further appealed to DGP to act similarly on civilian narcotic drug users “at this very hour of fast increasing narcotic drug menace” in Dimapur.
CSOs, which also shared opinions and views on sorry state of Dimapur in all affairs of people’s well-being, urged the responsible department to repair/amend thousands of potholes and ditch-like roads in Dimapur city and in its surrounding areas. The leaders said that the hardships faced by commuters and school-going children have “reached the point of unbearable.”
Further, the CSOs appealed to responsible department to immediately commission the functioning of the shopping mall at Forest Colony to avail benefits and opportunities by Dimapur citizens.
Concerned over traffic problems in the city, the CSOs urged the commercial building owners and shop owners not to park their vehicles along Dimapur market roads throughout the day. They observed that doing so was causing parking hardships to customers during the marketing.
CSOs stated that government had been apprised of the problems years back but till date government has not addressed the grievance of the public. CSOs also urged the managing board of Holy Cross Higher Secondary School, Christian Higher Secondary School, St. Mary Higher Secondary School and Little Star Higher Secondary School to arrange their parking space in their own compound for all the vehicles dropping and picking of school children. To ease traffic congestion, CSOs also requested all vehicle owners—two, three, four wheelers and mini busses—on school duty to stop at the main roadside in town even for a minute to get school children down from their vehicles.
In thew light of the above public grievances and plights, Dimapur-based CSOs and NCD vigilance committee has appealed to the he government departments, shop owners and the private schools to pay heed to their appeals seriously and take remedial actions at the earliest. Failing which, the CSOs affirmed to express their resentment and reaction in any feasible manner.
