Advisor, labour employment and skill development, excise, Moatoshi Longkumer said the recent flood in Dimapur was “man-made disaster caused by blocked drainages”.
Moatoshi, who is also the chairman Dimapur District Planning and Development Board (DPDB), was addressing the monthly DPDB meeting on June 28 at the Conference Hall of Deputy Commissioner (DC) Dimapur office.
According to a DIPR report, Moatoshi asked the district administration and Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC) to depute a team to gather “photographic evidences” of people throwing garbage into the drainage. He also asked them to undertake verification to list “drainage encroachers” and serve notice to the defaulters for further legal action.
He also asked the board members and all the district officers to sensitise the people not to throw garbage in the drainage and to create awareness on cleanliness.
Moatoshi also appreciated departments for undertaking plantation drives to beautify Dimapur. He then requested all the departments to mandatorily install CCTV in their respective offices for the safety and protection of government properties.
The meeting deliberated on several agendas including compulsory installation of CCTVs in all the shops and streets under Dimapur district; removal of obsolete cable wires and telephone posts which destroys the outlook of the city.
On installation of CCTV and removal of cable wires, DC Dimapur Sachin Jaiswal said orders for the same would be issued. He informed that the district administration has met the Cable TV providers and field visit has also been conducted by SDO (C), adding that action would be initiated.
The house also approved and forwarded the resolution to temporarily shift DC office till new office building was constructed. Upgradation and shifting of schools, society registrations, grant-in-aid and other issues were discussed during the meeting.
