Dimapur Municipal Council undertakes property inspection drive

Staff ReporterDIMAPUR, MAR 3 (NPN):

Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC) has launched an inspection drive across various municipal properties to streamline rent collection, assess infrastructure and strengthen inter-departmental coordination.
The inspection team, led by DMC chairman Hukheto Yepthomi, visited key locations including the Old DMC Building, Millennium Building, Old Market areas and New Market western site on Tuesday.
The drive focused on identifying house rent defaulters and reviewing the occupancy status of municipal properties. During the inspection, several tenants were found to have defaulted on rent payments. The Council reiterated that strict action would be initiated against defaulters, while allotments of those not utilising their allotted spaces are liable to be cancelled as per regulations.
Directing the housing and development branches to coordinate closely, Yepthomi stressed the need for teamwork rather than shifting responsibility. He said that although assessments were conducted last year and developmental works undertaken accordingly, fresh and proper assessments were necessary to plug loopholes and ensure efficient property management. He pointed out that many rooms remained unused and emphasised that systematic allocation could address the issue.
DMC ward-3 councillor I. Sentinuklu Jamir, who participated in the inspection, underscored the importance of continuous assessment to prevent misuse of municipal properties. He noted that while some properties had been assessed, others remained unidentified due to lack of proper evaluation, and called for completion of pending assessments. Others who were present included councillors Kili N. Sumi and Yimkumba Kichu.
The team further directed that no temporary structures be constructed within municipal premises without prior authorisation.
The drive will continue for three days, concluding on March 5, after which the Council will formulate a comprehensive action plan based on the findings.
DMC to launch TL web portal
Meanwhile, the chairman informed that the Trade License branch will launch its Trade License Web Portal on March 9, 2026. The Trade License Digitalization system was initiated by DMC deputy chairperson Imlinaro Stephanie Ezung as in-charge of the Trade License branch and has been operational since March 2025.
She said the initiative aimed not merely to digitise but to fully digitalise the trade licensing system to enhance transparency and service delivery. A help desk will be set up to assist the public. Under her initiative, a new DMC website has also been developed and integrated with digital application and payment gateways.
