Dimapur Naga Students’ Union (DNSU) has firmly rejected claims by certain staff members of Holy Cross Higher Secondary School (HCHSS) that its intervention in a recent dispute was “inappropriate” and “unrelated.” In a statement, DNSU emphasized that it will continue to welcome grievances from parents and students within its jurisdiction, regardless of institutional approval.
The Union clarified that its involvement was aimed at fact-finding and mediation, ensuring the matter was resolved peacefully through mutual understanding. It cautioned that attempts to escalate the issue after resolution raise questions about intent. While acknowledging genuine concerns from parents, DNSU said it acted responsibly to calm tensions.
The Union further asserted that institutions unwilling to cooperate only invite doubts, stressing its commitment to safeguard student interests whenever necessary.
The union clarified its role in a recent dispute involving Holy Cross Higher Secondary School (HCHSS), stressing that the issue was minor and could have been resolved internally. DNSU said it intervened only after the matter became public, acting in good faith to mediate and ensure an amicable settlement. The Union emphasized that the school’s reputation was not harmed, as the matter had already been peacefully resolved.
According to DNSU, the situation escalated largely due to poor communication and alleged rude behavior by some members of the school’s management, including suggestions that parents take transfer certificates for raising concerns. The Union noted that educators have a responsibility to explain matters patiently, as parents ultimately seek the best academic future for their children.
It reiterated that DNSU’s purpose was to serve, not to dominate, and highlighted its commitment to honesty, accountability, and transparency. It cautioned that questioning the Union’s role undermines efforts to safeguard student interests. Parents also expressed fears of being targeted due to communication gaps with the institution’s management.
The Union acknowledged the importance of clarifications to protect institutional image but insisted that reopening the matter contradicts the mutual agreement reached during discussions. All parties had agreed to “forgive and forget” misunderstandings and keep the resolution within the school to maintain harmony. DNSU reaffirmed its resolve to act with maturity and restraint, despite criticism, and to continue serving the student community and society at large.
It also questioned the rationale behind the temporary closure of Holy Cross Higher Secondary School (HCHSS), noting that the dispute had already been resolved amicably. The Union warned that such measures create unnecessary anxiety among students and parents during a crucial academic period.
DNSU stressed that decisions affecting education must prioritize student welfare and continuity of learning, and any disruption should be clearly justified. While acknowledging the challenges of teaching, the Union appealed to staff not to rekindle the matter, cautioning that reopening it would disregard the sincere efforts made toward resolution.
