DIMAPUR, JUN 1 (NPN): Commissioner of Police (CP), Dimapur, has notified new speed limits for vehicles on key roads and highways and prohibited the parking of heavy vehicles along national highways.
In an order, the Commissioner of Police Dimapur fixed the maximum speed limit at 50 kmph on the NH-29 stretch from Zion Hospital Junction to Chümoukedima, 30 kmph within Dimapur city limits, and 80 kmph on the NH-29 four-lane bypass from Kushiabill towards Chathe Bridge (Patkai/Seithekema).
The order also stated that, in accordance with Supreme Court guidelines, heavy vehicles, trucks and commercial vehicles would not be allowed to park or stop on national highways except at designated bays, lay-bys or wayside amenities.
In the event of vehicle breakdowns or emergencies, drivers have been directed to use hazard lights and reflective warning triangles to alert other road users. The order came into force with effect from June 1, 2026.
The public has been advised to strictly adhere to the prescribed speed limits and comply with all traffic regulations. CP cautioned that violators would be prosecuted under the relevant provisions of the Motor Vehicle (MV) Act and Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
