Dimapur police nab 2 with arms, ammo

DIMAPUR: Dimapur Police arrested two persons and seized five .303 rifles, magazines and 90 rounds of ammunition during an operation near Aoyimti village on Friday. Acting on credible information about the alleged illegal possession and transportation of firearms, a police team intercepted an autorickshaw near the Aoyimti village cemetery around 5:30pm. The occupants were identified as Ghotovi Yeptho, deputy kilonser of NSCN (Kitovi), and the driver, Akhehoto Yeptho. According to Dimapur police PRO, a search of the autorickshaw, bearing registration No. NL-07F-6939, led to the recovery of five .303 rifles with magazines and 90 rounds of .303 ammunition. Police said the two men could not produce valid documents for possession of the firearms and ammunition. A case has been registered at East Police Station, and further investigation is underway. Dimapur police reiterated its commitment to preventing the illegal possession, transportation and trafficking of firearms and ammunition and appealed to the public to share credible information about such activities.
